A Good Friend – By T. Baker

You can choose your friends, but you can’t choose your family; people, especially our own families have been telling us this for decades. You can’t decide what sort of home you’ll be brought up in, but you’re fully in control over the kind of environment you allow yourself to be immersed in as you grow older and more independent. So what is it then, that makes a good friend?!!

Being human, we usually struggle hard to be and feel accepted by the greater society. This is a reason why, especially in adolescents people change so drastically to become a part of what they see as ‘cool’. No-one likes to stand out for all the wrong reasons, however good friends will embrace you for who you are without forcing you to change for the sake of peer pressure. That’s not to say you can’t have bucket loads of fun. Good friends aren’t boring. Good friends fight as much as they laugh. A good friend is someone who isn’t afraid to tell it like it is, whether it’s for you or against you, whether it hurts you or not. A good friend is that sister or brother who has been entirely your choice.!!

You can’t choose family, but you can choose your friends. So choose wisely.

  1. I couldn’t agree more! You can’t blame a friend for trying to lure you into his/her bad environment/habits since it was your choice to befriend that person from the very beginning.
