The “Success story” of this month is about a man who is using his immense fortune to give others a helping hand. I found out about his mission a while ago, and now I’ll tell you what it is about.
Who among you don’t remember the story of a man called “Robin Hood”? Exactly, the thief in green clothes known for “robbing from the rich and giving to the poor”.
Well, there is a man who could be considered as a sort of “Robin Hood of Modern Age”, but with an important difference: He doesn’t steal and uses his own money to help the poor.
“Why should it be surprising?”Well, you could say, “There’s a large number of people who love engaging themselves in charity work and help hard-pressed people every day. Why should he be any different?”. True. The difference stands in the huge amount of money he dedicates to give away as a personal mission of life: 1 million dollars to help those in need, with no distinction of race, gender, age, religion, or origin.
The benefactor’s name is Jayceon Terrell Taylor, but he is better known by his stage name “The Game” (or simply Game). He is an American rapper and actor, a sweet father, and a philanthropist.
The brilliant idea (which is named “The Robin Hood Project”), came in mind on September 10th while he was on tour in Australia, and since then, he decided to start a new Instagram blog to document his acts of kindness and generosity.
I found out his mission just through his Instagram official profile (@therobinhoodproject) where there are photos of some of the people he has helped until now.
They come from every country of the world, and they are young people or families, children and homeless; people with a small or big dream they crave to realize. There are some cases in which the person who claimed help did not need a big amount of money, as Brandon, a student in Los Angeles who has been given 800 dollars and has realized his dream to play in the NBA, or a homeless couple of the same city who have received 200 dollars and couldn’t be any happier.
When people ask him why he made this decision, he always talks about a particular event that happened during his journey in Australia. He wrote about the episode himself using these words:
“The other day I posted this pic of an African child I met in Australia playing outside the grocery store. His story of his family’s hardships & struggles to get away from the terror they left behind touched me so I gave him what I had on me… Which was an Australian $20 bill.”
“As the days passed, I thought about him over & over & over & the only thing that bothered me about that night was that I didn’t have more on me to give him at that time. For some reason I just didn’t bring more money from the hotel. Since I can’t shake that feeling… I have decided to give $1,000,000 to people I come in contact with around the world every day until Christmas. Don’t even know if that’s possible, but I’ve set my heart on trying!!! I’ve created a new account specifically for those who would like to Follow @therobinhoodproject & support me on this journey.”
The plan was revealed via social media, starting with a post on Instagram of the Australian poor boy whom he wasn’t able to provide any further help. Then he posted the beautiful and pure face of a little girl called Tiana who was shot and killed outside her family’s home. He gave his first $10,000 donation to her family in order to pay funeral costs. Since then, many people have been helped, all just because Jayceon felt it.
If you check the profile, you can see that it has more than 166,000 followers and many smiles for his priceless actions. So far it looks like his mission has rubbed off on his peers who have started to promote the mission on their Instagram pages hoping to spread awareness about the project.

This history teaches us that in a world which seems to be losing its soul day after day, in which war, power and money have more value than human life, there are still some great-minded people who remember why we are here: to give love and help, to share what we have and receive the best that people want to offer, to live in peace keeping in mind that we are all equal and all have the same right to live a respectable life and pursue our dreams and goals.
Everyone should try to help others in his own small way, not necessarily with money, but with something that has undoubtedly a greater and deeper meaning: Time.
Maybe the only thing people really need and deserve to receive without reservation is your presence.
It may seem trivial, but to understand that is more difficult than it might seem. No expensive gifts, sweet notes, messages, or endless phone calls will replace your active presence in one person’s life.
People need more smiles, more hugs, more claims like: “Here I am, I’m listening to you, and there is no other place where I’d like to be right now. You are worth all my time and you come before anything else”.
